The Janet Burgoon Philanthropic Excellence Awards
North Shore Senior Center was founded in 1956 with Janet Burgoon, our first Executive Director, at its helm. A professional social worker who trained under Jane Addams at Chicago's Hull House, Burgoon had innovative ideas about aging. She firmly believed that older adults should enjoy full participation in community life - and that their involvement was equally beneficial to the community.
In these challenging economic times, our organization has enjoyed the support of many steadfast donors. In gratitude, we created the Janet Burgoon Philanthropic Excellence Awards. We wanted to recognize those whose generosity has helped older adults maintain their independence and their connections to the communities in which they live.

North Shore Senior Center's Outstanding Philanthropist provides annual support without fail at the highest level. This steadfast financial commitment is combined with a sense of pride from all of the programs and services provided by the Center. This donor recognizes that we cannot rely solely on our reputation, for surely it will not last without the financial support from those that know the organization best. This donor truly exemplifies the understanding it takes the whole community to make an organization the best that it can be.
